SR Riquet 【Still Learning】
"My Nii-sama" 1:
(location: Rutile's room)
Riquet: ——Pardon my intrusion.
Rutile: Hello, Riquet.
Rutile: You're here about the picture book we talked about yesterday, right? I'll go get it, so could you come inside and wait a little bit?
Riquet: Of course!
*sound of books falling to the floor*
Rutile: I'm pretty sure it's around here... Ah, it's this one.
*knock-knock*
Mitile: Nii-sama. There's something I want to ask you...
Huh, Riquet? What are you doing here?
Riquet: I came here to borrow a picture book from Rutile.
Rutile: Mitile, wait just a second. Riquet, this is the picture book.
Riquet: Wow...! Thank you so much!
Mitile: Ah, it's that one!
Mitile: That picture book is so nostalgic. I read it when I was younger than I am now!
Rutile: Jeez, Mitile. Don't say it in such a boastful way...
You still love this picture book, don't you? Not too long ago, when I read it to you before bed, you...
Mitile: N-Nii-sama! Please keep that a secret...!
Riquet: ...
(location: main room)
Riquet: "There, the brothers together..." (Note)
Brothers...
... Rutile and Mitile always get along so well...
Watching them makes me feel warm inside, but at the same time, I'm a little... jealous.
If I had an older brother, too...
I'll keep reading.
"Together..."
Huh? These characters, I wonder how you read them.
Hmm...
*door opens*
Arthur: Riquet. What are you doing?
"My Nii-sama" 2:
Riquet: Prince Arthur. I was reading the picture book I borrowed from Rutile.
Arthur: A picture book, you say. What sort of story is it?
Riquet: It's about two brothers who are wizards. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and it's thrilling, so it's very interesting.
However...
Arthur: However?
Riquet: I can't read these characters...
Arthur: I see. In that case, can I have a look?
Riquet: Of course.
Arthur: Ah, this says, "Together utilized magic——"
Riquet: U-ti-lized?
Arthur: It means the same thing as "use." You've heard that word before, right?
Riquet: "Use"... That, I can understand! Thank you so much, Master Arthur.
Arthur: There's no need to thank me. Are there any other parts you don't understand?
Riquet: Is it alright to ask? If so, then this page's...
(time skip)
Arthur: "——And so, the brothers were able to once again bring peace to the world."
Riquet: Wow...!
Thank you so much! I didn't expect that you would read the entire book to me.
Arthur: It was fun for me, too. Thank you, Riquet.
Riquet: ...
Arthur: Riquet?
Riquet: ... Nii-sama.
Arthur: Nii-sama?
Riquet: Ah! Um, that's, er.
... I just had a sudden thought. That if I had a brother, I would like him to be a kind person like Master Arthur...
Arthur: Riquet...
*footsteps*
Mitile: Ah! There you are, Riquet! Nii-sama said that pretty soon, it'll be time for cla——.
Huh, Sir Arthur? What are you doing with Riquet?
Arthur: ... You see, I was reading a book with my adorable little brother. Isn't that right, Riquet?
Riquet: !
... Yes, Nii-sama!
Note: The line does say something about magic, but it doesn't say "what" about magic, and without a verb, I can't form a sentence with the word "magic." For example, if it gave me a hint that they're using or learning magic, then I could put in magic, but Riquet trails off, so I just cut it off at together. As you can see, Arthur comes in later to explain the missing verb to Riquet
Also one more thing: because both Mitile and Riquet use "兄様" I ended up leaving it in. If it's was onii-san, or nii-san, etc., etc., I probably would have translated it to "big brother" but nii-sama is a bit more respectful than the others, and there's no good English equivalent to it.
Card Episode "Suggestion for His Picture Diary":
Akira: Riquet, are you studying?
Riquet: Yes. Rutile assigned me homework.
He told me to write a diary using words that I know.
Akira: A diary for homework, huh. That reminds me of summer vacation.
Riquet: Master Sage, have you written a diary before as well?
Akira: Yes. In my case, it was a picture diary. Rutile likes art as well, so if you draw art in your diary, I'm sure he'll be happy.
Riquet: That's a wonderful idea. Then, for the parts that I can't write well, maybe I'll turn them into art...
Akira: What do you want to write?
Riquet: Unsanitary.
Akira: Un... Unsanitary...
Riquet: I wish to enforce hand-washing because Cain picked on some sweets without washing his hands.
Riquet: I don't know how to write "enforce" either... Can you write "enforce" Master Sage?
Akira: I don't understand the letters in this world...
Riquet: Ah, that's right... I wonder how I should display "unsanitary" and "enforce" in my art.
Akira: How about drawing Cain picking on something and you getting angry at him?
Riquet: I see, I'll do that!
Akira: Once you finish it, please show it to me as well. I'm sure that Rutile, too, will give you a gold star while laughing.
